ISO Assignment.

Our photography instructor sent us home with a project - stand at the side of the road (not in it, the paper said) and take photos of the traffic as it goes by while manipulating your ISO settings. Report your results.

My favorite was the photo for ISO speed 400.

You can see the reflection of my car and the building behind me in the windows of the bus, but also the ghost image of the truck resting in the median BEHIND the moving bus. I'm not sure if this might have had more to do with the shutter speed than ISO, but our class won't get to that until next week. Either way, cool stuff.

Weight check with Dr. Fieste.

I'm going to have to get more comfortable with carrying my camera around with me throughout the day. I feel a little awkward pulling it out in the midst of my day and taking photos of the monotony.

An old favorite, re-touched.

Pens are pretty serious business when you're a student. (Even more so when they're pretty!)

Rowan's Choo-Choo Train

I love to watch him get smarter by the day.

Medicinal Cookies.

Jason made me Housepoet's Lactation Cookies to help me get started on storing milk now that I'm headed back to school. I'm to eat no less than 4 a day. Sure, it's a tough regimen to follow, but being a parent means you've got to do what's best. Even if that means having to suck it up and consume delicious baked goods.

I'm trying to experiment more with the Aperture Priority setting on my camera. I really wish this wasn't in front of an ugly dumpster, but otherwise, I like this shot a lot.

The Eldest.

It has not escaped my attention that we're now 9 posts in and there's no photos of our oldest. I assure you it is not for lack of trying, my friends. You see, there's a monster in our house. It only rears it's head when a camera is pointed in Corbin's direction. This evil entity takes my poor, beautiful boy's face and transforms it into something akin to a drunken frat boy. We call it - Camera Face.

Behold, the monster at work!

New.

I was a bit busy today and didn't get a chance to take any photos, so I'm cheating and recycling an older one. Except this is my blog and I make up the rules, and I say cheating is allowed. So there.

I chose this specific photo because that tiny (yet so fat) baby turned 5 months old today. I'm equally heartbroken and excited because she's turning into such a little person who's learning by leaps and bounds. She impresses me everyday. Surprisingly, it was taken with my usually-not-so-great camera phone.

Photo Editing

I started this project off with some pretty lofty expectations. I felt like I needed to be able to take a photo that wouldn't need to be retouched or edited. I was convinced in order to be considered a good photographer, I'd need to be able to shoot perfect pictures every single time.

Then I came back to Earth and realized even if that were possible, it was going to be a tad beyond my capabilities at this point. Or, you know, ever. I was going to need some definite help with that perfection part.

And so I came to the conclusion that editing wasn't a dirty word. The programs exist for a reason. And I want to get better at learning to use them, too. I'm starting off with getting familiar with Lightroom right now since it's an Adobe program I haven't used much in the past. So far, I really like it. I was able to dig back into my photo archives and try to rescue a picture I'd taken a few months ago. The subject was adorable, but the lighting was really bad.

I'm pretty pleased with it, in the end. I do think I went a little overboard with the green tones, but my main goal for this picture was the enhance the sparkle in her eyes, and I think I achieved that. I'd consider this a mediocre photo saved.

Learning. I proudly ventured out and shot this in a mode other than Auto, but once I referenced back to the book, I realized it was not the best mode choice (Tv) for this particular picture. I struggled with the lighting, too.

Our side-car crib setup. It's not a very good picture, but I still wanted to share what we did today. We're all hoping this means more room, more sleep, and less worry about babies rolling off the bed :)

Bonus photo:

While taking the 365 project photo for today, Charis (aka, The Laziest Baby EVER) rolled over for the first time! There was much cheering.

Today our family got together and had dinner in honor of my little brother's 26th birthday. He's a New Year's baby (he's just always HAD to be special, even since birth). I tried to take a photo of him during said dinner, but my camera phone is a piece of shit, so I'm reusing one I shot while he was over on Christmas Eve.
