Corbin, the Genius.

The bottom, lighter lines on each graph are average scores. Corbin's scores are the darker lines above.

Not too shabby.

Law #4532 of the Universe:

Make funny faces at your wife while she's trying to take serious photographs, she will probably end up using them against you in a public forum.

My Valentine.

I love this gift! It's an SD card that uses my home network to automatically upload photos directly from my camera to my computer as they are taken. No more forgetting to put my SD card back in my camera between uploads! And, it can even upload to Facebook if I want. Jason did well.

Soooo big.

(You may notice that these pictures were all taken on the same day. Try to ignore that, and blame my English teacher and my upcoming drama paper, if you must.)

"Here, Charis!"

We hear this phrase a lot. Rowan loves to give things to her and see her play with them. I get so much joy out of seeing him interact with her. He's so gentle, affectionate, and genuinely interested in making her happy. So sweet!

My (possibly ex) Dear Friend.

Today is my friend Megan's birthday. I love her lots and I'm so glad she's my friend. Though I suspect after I publish this photo for all the world to see, she may stop taking my calls. I seem to remember her not liking this photo much. I can't imagine why, I personally love it!

It's the expression on her face that makes it, I think.

Happy Birthday, Megan!

Inspiration/Interpretation Project

A photography class assignment that consisted of finding an image we liked, and then taking one similar to it in our own style.

Here's my inspiration photo:

Here's my photo:

This may be my favorite photo I've taken to date. But I suspect it's not as good as I thought it was - the first thing my instructor said when he saw it was, "What's that in the background?" And then called it a Mom's shot. I really need to work a bit more on staging my photos.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Love, Charis.

This photo peaked my frustration with the lighting situation in my open kitchen/dining room/living room. There isn't much outside light to work with, and the bulbs in the lighting fixtures in these rooms throw yellow-ish light that's showing up in most of my pictures. I picked up some bubs that claim to mimic daylight and am oh-so-patiently waiting for them to be installed. I've got high hopes the change will help with the jaundiced-picture problems I keep having.

Friends.

Some of my favorite people from Atlanta came to see me a few days ago. Another friend of ours wanted to be there, but is currently traipsing around Germany (well, as much as one lady with 2 small kiddos can traipse). Vicky decide to include her in the photo in Facebook spirit.

A Photo Journey.

We fed Charis real food for the first time. I'll let her show you how she liked it:

Needless to say, it was a no-go for now. However, she did enjoy the spoon:

Giddy.
It's a wonderful thing to be able to press a button on your phone and have it actually DO SOMETHING. Good riddance, Droid.

Love and Zombies.

Corbin was in this embrace for reasons of affection. Charis was clearly just interested in some delicious brains.

Egg Project #2
Pablo Picasegg

Second attempt. I moved to a spot with better light and I'm much happier with the result of this one. Ironically, I really don't care for abstract art.

Egg Project #1
Runny Eggs

We were told in Photography class to photograph an egg twice creatively. Here is my first attempt, thanks to an idea from Corbin. I like the concept, but am not in love with  my execution.

Salty cookies.

Tip: When using Kosher Salt in a baking recipe, halve whatever amount it calls for. Despite what your husband says.

Accidental Dave.
More fun with depth of field.

I got a new lens that allows me to go down (up?) to an aperture of 1.4. I'm really excited for the new realm of photography this allows me to play in. However, I'm struggling with it. I like a shallow depth of field on portrait-type picture, but it's really easy to mess this up if the focus is off even a little bit. I've got an upload folder full of pictures where my subject's shoulder is perfectly sharp, while their face is blurred. To overcome this with my less-than-still subjects, I've tried to increase (decrease?) my aperture to try and get more of the photo in focus. Except then I'm dealing with a whole new set of lighting and ghost-y image problems. For now, I'm going to try to work on improving my manual focusing techniques. As you can see, letting the lens automatically choose where to focus doesn't always give me the image I was hoping for. I call these The Accidental Beard and Accidental Dave, respectively.
